Today, Wednesday, we visited Stowe School located in Buckingham, England. Stowe School is located about two hours away from London and is in a much more rural area. The cost of attendance is 33,000 pounds a year or 56,641.03 American dollars. There are roughly 700 students in attendance of the school and it is coed. About 90 percent of the students stay at the boarding school full time. This school has been around since 1923 and was originally an all boys school. The Stowe House, the large grand home you will see pictured, was originally a family home for, you guessed it, the Stowe family. To make a long story short, the Stowe family lost all of their fortune and that is how it became a school. It is a HUGE home and campus. I cannot imagine living there. Jessica pointed out today, that she truly understood why Jane Austen's characters were always out on walks. These walks that make frequent appearances in Austen's novels can seem quite boring but you will change your mind when you take a stroll through the British countryside or an estate in England. All I can say is WOW.
Everyone was so kind at Stowe and very well versed in the history of the school and of the building. We not only received a tour of the library and met with a librarian but we also received a tour of the estate itself. Afterwards, we were permitted to walk in the gardens. They were truly magnificent.
I was very blown away by the boarding school. My whole life I have always attended public school and although the British boarding schools are seemingly quite different form American ones, I cannot imagine what it would be like going to school in such a gorgeous place full of so much history. To learn more about the school you can visit there website here.
When we returned back to London this evening, we ventured out in to Chinatown for dinner. I love visiting Chinatown in various cities. They are always so alive, bustling, and full of color. After our dinner we strolled around Chinatown and ended up at Baker Street, Trafalgar Square, and Covenant Gardens. Taylor and I had Shake Shack for dessert! I love walking around London in the early evening. The city has so much energy. It is so nice to see people out and about enjoying the city and all it has to offer at all ours of the night. London is a city with so much history and so much growth that it is just simply thrilling to be apart of it's story for the day.
And there is my story for the day. Goodnight everyone!
