Today Chris and I planned on seeing as much as we could in the Highlands before heading back to Edinburgh on Sunday. We woke up early this morning and headed to Loch Ness and to see the Urquahrt Castle. We read that the Urquart Castle could be a bit of a tourist trap so we were hoping to avoid the large queues.
Loch Ness was an incredible large body of water. Sadly we did not see Nessie, maybe next trip! We were not able to get a picture of the castle but you can see one online! It is a beautiful castle that is now in ruins. There is always something beautiful and haunting about abandoned/ruined places.
Next we headed to a seculed area outside of Inverness. We went to visit the Corrimony Chambered Cairn. These were stunning. I have had the privledge of seeing Stonehenge but you cannot get close to the stones at Stonehenge. At the Cairn we visited you could walk right up to the stones. I wish we had time to see more areas like this!
After visiting the standing stones we decided to head more northwards and see the ocean. We wanted to make it all the way to the top but we were quickly running out of time! There is never enough time to see everything! Below are some snapshots from the drive. They do not do the the highlands justice.
